the associate review

have you ever been through one of those associate reviews where your boss sits you down and starts reading some mindless shit from a white piece of paper? it reads something like, "[insert your name here] has proven to be very reliable by arriving to work on time.. . he/she has had no exceptions regarding attendance this period.. . he/she has shown growth by building a great rapport with the customer.. . [insert name] has blah blah blah.. ." yeah, you get it. there's normally a line that you sign at the bottom, and above it, it reads something like, "signing this does not necessarily mean you agree to this associate review, but that you have read and understand it." well, if you haven't seen one of these, then you will soon enough. i had one yesterday, and it's a load of crap. not that i had a bad review or anything. really, it's just that it's a big waste of time all around. my boss had to take the time to write the crap. unless there's some program out there that automatically cuts and pastes in quotes like, "leslie will show continual growth as an associate as long as she keeps promoting, o blah, who cares." anywho, i had to take the time to read the thing as well. not only did i read it, but i read it as my boss read the damned thing aloud to me. is this necessary??? what i'd really like to happen is for my boss to just kind of walk by my desk and say, "hey you've been doing really well, i gave you a raise." that's all i need, and everyone would be better for it. there's just too much ceremony for something that doesn't really require any fuss at all. at my other job, i get a review that's quite similar. the only difference is that for the past two and a half years, i've had the same review basically. boss writes the same crap every single time. in fact, he might as well photocopy it for the next time and just white out the date. anywho, i've had the same review; excellent ratings throughout. guess what? my pay has only increased by 75 cents. 75 cents over two years. why the review then? obviously, no one really cares. obviously, the review's shit .. chock full of red tape.
