space-oddity's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- karaoke night so we went to this new place for karaoke last night. well, "new" meaning that we haven't ever been there before. a wide variety of characters were cramped into this little bar, making the atmosphere prime for people watching - bikers, cowboys, fratdaddies, coyote uglies, kids. well, just one kid wearing cowboy boots who got a standing ovation after he mumbled some words to a country song. really, he just looked bored to tears standing up there. he must be a regular. there was a guy sitting next to us with long jet bottle black hair. he had rings on every finger and a cross hanging from his neck. he had a beer belly. he also had severe shakes; i saw him try to poor some beer from his pitcher. yes, shakes. ozzy incarnate. he got up and screamed some ac/dc. it was not so good. two guys got up to sing brickhouse, and the coyote uglies got up to dance on the bar. this encouraged a fat lady in a sweatshirt, probably someone's mom, to get up on the bar and dance, too. someone stuffed a dollar into her jeans. the table full of drunk pathetic middle age bowling alley type folk got up to dance. some of these women had mullets. feathered mullets. acid wash wearing up to their chests. they did the white people dance. a biker named silas got up to white people dance with them. funky chicken leg, stiff joints, awkward. the song ended, and they all dispersed to sit back down. thank you, jebus. then, this guy got up to sing riders on the storm. ladies and gentleman, this song kills karaoke. there's like a 60 bar break in the middle where you'll watch the 40-year-old man who's singing sit and pick his butt while he waits with the rest of us. so, yeah, that ended it. we left. clay didn't even have a chance to get up there and do his stuff. the beer was cheap though. 11:30 pm - 03.02.03 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
