high hopes

i came home for lunch, and i was just about to leave, my landlady caught me right before i could get to my car (as she always seems to do. she's really cool and everything; i just wish she didn't always want to start long conversations with me when i'm about to leave for work).
anyways, we started talking about where i work, and she was asking about what she needs to do to rent from us, etc. i had mentioned to her weeks ago that if she ever wanted any specific title, she could just let me know, and i could bring it home with me - so today i reminded her of that, and she got pretty excited about that 'cos i guess she's been in the mood to watch movies lately.
anyways, i started to ask her what kind of films she likes to watch because she didn't seem to have any particular ones in mind,
and with that, she quickly replied,
"i like lots of movies with action and black heroes."
for a second there i wasn't sure if i had heard her correctly, but then it was all confirmed when she said that she really liked wesley snipes.
now, this isn't what you'd call shocking, but it isn't what you'd call ....... predictable.
i live in the south; it's just a really unusual thing to hear a 69-year-old white women in east tennessee say her favorite types of movies are action-packed flicks with handsome black heroes.
so, after i got through the surprise of hearing that.. i tried not to let it show on my face... and i told her i'd try to see what i could find.

i ended up bringing her murder at 1600. i've never seen it, but it has wesley snipes in it, and the guys at work said it was pretty good. they at first told me i should get passenger 57, but i figured she had already seen that one.

when i brought her the tape, she was complaining about her knee again.
she had surgery a few weeks ago, so she's been having some trouble with the healing.
i told her that i hoped she'd feel better tomorrow, to which she replied,
"no, i won't."
ouchy.
what do you say to something like that?........................nothing,
i guess,
which is exactly what i did.

but she's very cool and nice, and i'm glad she lives below us.
