day off - ice skate

i called in sick today. no, i'm not sick, just unbelievably tired. i think i've already used three of my days so far this year, and everytime i call i'm just too exhausted to be bothered to come in. perhaps if i had more respect for my crap job, i might actually reconsider this behavior. also, i'm thinking that i've done this two-job thing long enough. this, also, makes me want to call in and use sick days 'cos i never have a friggin day off to get anything done. bah bah bah.

we went ice skating last night. i like it. i have fun, but i know i'd have more fun if i could skate better. i envy that asshole who came out last night and went really fast while nearly knocking down kids and stuff. he skates in neat little circles and shaves up ice and sprays it everywhere. that's cool. skating is kind of hard on the wallet though, 8 bucks. i know i couldn't do that everyday, and the only way to get good is with some practice. mark goes in-line skating. he has his own skates. i guess the two are very similar, except one has a blade and the other has wheels, but i'm sure the motions are basically the same, and in-line skating does seem more cost effective. it has just the one tribulation of buying the skates, and once you've saved up for that, then you're free of charges. no stupid skating rink fees. but gliding on ice is so neat. i dunno.

i'm not a diehard patriot or anything, but i'm getting a little miffed at reading countless bits and snippets about stupid americans, and it's not always having to do with the war, either. it just tears at my pride a little, i guess. also, being from tennessee, i'm so tired of people making rash generalizations of the south. that's so been-there-done-that, and i'm over it. yes, i admit it. i, too, have made fun of rednecks, white trash, and the likes, but if i'm not mistaken, you can also find white trash in new york city. it's everywhere, folks. and the strangest thing about this is that the people in this country spend so much energy on their independence and originality, but we all shop at target and ikea and etc. i don't know what i'm trying to say here. most of the time i'm just too passive in this diary to write anything of much substance and grit. i ignore politics and pretty much the entire world around me. i think i'll be passive once more by ending this paragraph.
